“Nothing to Gain = Everything to Lose?”
"Overweight? It's Not Your Fault!"
By Dr. Frank B. Smoot, MA, DD
Today's message, if you will allow yourself to truly let it in, can lead you to some of the most wonderful experiences in your life.
But if you don't "get it," you could actually go to your grave never having lived the joyful, guilt-free life that God wants you to live here on the earth He made just for you.
The powerful, life-changing lesson to be learned can be summed up in four simple but powerful words:
IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT!
What's not your fault? We are, of course, talking specifically about your weight problem. But in truth, you need to understand that nothing you have done in this life is really "your fault."
Does it sound like I'm trying to "let you off the hook" for any and all past sins? YES! Since Jesus has already made it clear that He is willing to forgive any and all your sins, that really leaves only YOU to complete this all-important job.

The real point here is what happens if you DON'T forgive yourself and continue to feel blameworthy, guilty, flawed, inadequate, or any of the other life-sapping, spirit-draining, soul-souring consequences of not letting go your own acquired negativity.
You have to understand, there's nothing flawed or wrong with you. It's the BELIEFS and ATTITUDES that keep you overweight that are flawed. Those flawed beliefs have nothing to do with who you ARE, but they absolutely determine what you will DO - and whether or not you will succeed at weight loss.
"Who you are" is God's own wonderful creation. But what you KNOW - and therefore what you DO - was learned from other humans.
So you need to make a very big
distinction between two things:
(1) WHO YOU ARE is the product of God.
(2) WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED and WHAT YOU DO are the product of other human beings. You were not born flawed, but you have picked up lots of flawed beliefs along the way.
Who you *think* you are was learned from the WORLD. Who you really are will be discovered in the WORD.
God has made it abundantly clear that He loves you. Jesus' relentless focus on love as the key to life is the central theme of the New Testament. So why do we continue to beat ourselves up, even as we struggle to love others? Because that's what the WORLD teaches us to do!
If you've read any of my many articles, you know that I place a huge emphasis on personal responsibility as a major key for getting what you want in life. This is what Scripture tells us to do, and it's what the scientific research tells us to do. It's a very powerful key to success!
God expects you not wait passively for Him to fix your life, but to proactively "go for it." If you have any doubts about this, review the book of James.
If you already own the Weight Loss God's Way program, you not only know this, but you also know what to do about it, and how YOU can stop living as a "victim" (as the world teaches you to) and become a victor in the Word.
The bottom line here is simply that your weight problem is not and was not your fault. You MUST stop blaming yourself or feeling guilty if you ever intend to succeed.
But you also must not blame anyone else. Even though "the world" (and some very specific people in it) was the source of your problem, your solution lies in not blaming ANYBODY, but in forgiving EVERYBODY (that includes yourself - especially), and proactively doing what God tells you to do to create victory in YOUR life.
If you don't yet know what that is, I guarantee you'll find the answers in the Weight Loss God's Way program. It's your life, and God isn't going to swoop down from the sky and fix it for you. But He absolutely will provide you with all the tools to "do it yourself."
All you need to bring to the table is an open mind, a willing heart, and a guilt-free, blame-free spirit.
Peace be with you, and may God bless your success!
